  • Clean the cracks carefully. Remove debris with an awl and broom. Rinse small debris from cracks with the garden hose spray attachment and allow them to dry completely.
  • Fill 1/4 in. Of cracks with an asphalt or concrete scaler that comes in a putty-like tube. Apply a bead of putty into the crack and smooth with a putty knife. Repeat the operation if necessary.
  • Let all materials dry or cure according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Seal the driveway with water sealer using a roller or sprayer. The driveway cannot be walked on or moved over several days, since the plaster hardens, so put up some sort of barricade.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use driveway cleaner to remove the oil in the cracks.
  • If there are pieces of concrete or asphalt around the edges of the crack, use a chisel and mallet to chip away.
  • You can use the end of a 4-by-4 piece of lumber to tamp down the asphalt cold-patch present, but there is an easier way. Sprinkle sand on the cold-patch, lay a piece of plywood and drive over the patch several times. The car's weight will level the patch.
  • Covers products that need to cure with plastic while you wait. This will help them heal slower, which results in a stronger patch.
  • If your driveway has a lot of cracks, a repair may not be enough. Rather than patching a lot of places, have the aisle replaced.

Repair of cracks

  1. Sweep the area around the crack to remove organic debris and pebbles.
  2. Clean any gravel fragments or organic material from the crack itself. Remember that weeds and grass are looking for cracks in which to grow. You want to make sure that there is no part of the plant left. Otherwise, the roots will grow and regenerate the grass or grass, which will help the crack to reform.
  3. Once the area is clean, use a caulking gun loaded with a high quality asphalt repair compound to fill the cracks.
  4. Using a trowel, press the asphalt compound into the crack, making sure the mixture is smooth and free of dirt, gravel and organic debris.
  5. Using a paintbrush or paint roller, apply a good coat of asphalt sealer to the patched crack and surrounding area. This will create a waterproof barrier and help bond the crack with the surface.

Repair of holes

  1. Sweep the area around the hole to remove organic debris and stones.
  2. Clean dirt, rocks, gravel fragments or organic material from the hole itself.
  3. If there are pieces of asphalt around the edges of the hole, carefully remove them. The outside edge of the hole must be clean, firm asphalt, otherwise the patch will not bond properly.
  4. If the hole is deep, pack the bottom of the hole with clean, coarse gravel, stopping when the hole is half full or when the gravel is about 3 to 4 inches from the rim.
